An update on Little White and Little Grey

Thursday, 31 July 2025

We are continuing to adapt and pioneer ways to create the best possible home for Little Grey and Little White as part of this world-first sanctuary project.

Many of our followers will know, we installed the Intermediate Halo Habitat to help the whales adapt to life in the natural surroundings of our sanctuary. We’ve learnt a lot about the structure and have been working hard with engineering experts to make changes and modifications.

Adaptions to the Bay

We are always learning, improving and setting the highest industry standard of care for others to build upon. The adaptations we’ve made and will continue to make this year to the sanctuary, are designed to support the whales’ gradual acclimatisation to the bay environment, in line with their Little Steps programme.

We’re upgrading the care area to be even better to allow for our team to treat the whales should they become unwell in the bay rather than needing to bring them back to the landside care facility when they move.

The adaptations to the sanctuary are progressing well, but we have taken the careful but right decision to pause Little White and Little Grey’s return to the sanctuary until Spring 2026.

Our commitment to this pioneering project remains as strong as ever, and we will always be guided by the needs of Little Grey and Little White, with their wellbeing and safety as our highest priority.

What's Next?

The additional time will allow the care team to continue fine-tuning routines and protocols to ensure the move is as smooth and safe as possible so Little Grey and Little White can spend a prolonged period out in the bay next year. During this time, the care team will continue to support Little Grey and Little White in building their strength, stamina and the skills needed to thrive in Klettsvik Bay.

Little White and Little Grey are doing well and are healthy in their landside care facility where we’ve continued to carefully monitor their progress.

What does that mean for Little White and Little Grey?

Whilst we were hopeful of moving the whales into the bay sooner, we are always led by the belugas and take these decisions with the highest consideration for their welfare and safety, as well as our team.

We are continuing to adapt and develop the facilities to create the best possible home for Little Grey and Little White as part of this world-first sanctuary project.

We will continue to share updates with you on their preparations through the Little Steps programme in the lead up to their move.
