Having a Whale of a Time ...

Welcome to our Beluga Whale Sanctuary

The SEA LIFE Trust is a registered charity (no. 1175859) working globally to protect the world’s oceans and the amazing marine life that lives within them.

The SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary has been created in partnership with Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) along with expert support from Merlin Entertainments and Cargolux Airlines to provide formerly captive beluga whales with a safe and more natural home.

We hope this world first project will help to encourage the rehabilitation of more captive whales into natural environments in the future and one day bring an end to whale and dolphin entertainment shows.

The Sanctuary's first residents are two female beluga whales, Little White and Little Grey, who travelled all the way to their new open water home off the south coast of Iceland from China.

The Sanctuary also provides a permanent home to animals that need special care, such as injured puffins, from our team of marine animal experts. When visiting the Sanctuary, you can experience wonderful marine animals up close and personal and learn all about their individual stories.

The Sanctuary’s visitor centre is open to the public and all monies raised from admission ticket sales help our charity to provide the best possible care for Little White and Little Grey and the other animals in our care.
